Hawks are part of a growing number of people who have launched virtual assistant businesses during the pandemic. Indeed, self-employment and self-employment have become an important sector of the economy throughout COVID-19, said a report by NanoGlobals, a telework expert and market analyst, and virtual assistants have reported a 41% increase in employment in 2020 compared to 2019.
“In the past five years, people have realized that everyone needs help,” Angela Lee, professor of professional practice at Columbia University, told Insider. “Everyone I know needs a virtual assistant, and everyone I know is having a hard time finding one,” she added.

When selecting your services, people said, it’s important to recognize the skills you already have and the skills you’re interested in learning. Virtual assistant tasks range from designing marketing materials, creating social media strategy, and sending invoices and receipts to client clients.
No matter what services you decide to offer, there is a tool designed to help you provide quality work for your clients. Some virtual assistants said that paying for advanced online tools and platforms was a worthwhile investment, while others used free resources to complete their jobs.

People said that one of the advantages of working as a virtual assistant is flexibility. Virtual assistants can set their own schedules, set the number of hours they work per week, and leave time for family or travel whenever they see fit. In addition, many of them start their career as a virtual assistant while taking full-time jobs.
People said, whatever your circumstances, defining a schedule that works for you is an important step in creating a sustainable business model. If you get up early, consider completing your work every morning so you can get through the afternoon. If you’re a night owl, allow yourself to sleep, and start working when you’re most productive, said Hawks, who follows a schedule that allows her to get up until 10 a.m.
