CES 2022: Still a solid success despite half the exhibitors and 40,000 attendees

From a new COVID test device that gives instant results with just your breath, to a color-changing BMW electric car to autonomous electric farm robots that can shovel, weed, seed and more, with smarter smart home technology, including wireless power at a distance from the robots With more realistic facial expressions, and whether the latest GPUs, CPUs, startups, smartphones, flying cars, accessible technology, fintech, wellness, wearables, and more – CES 2022 was certainly smaller, but it managed to unleash a lot of cool .

iTWire He’s been at CES 2022 in person all week, and we’ve taped dozens of video interviews from a range of different companies across the event, covering some great technology, from all of the sectors described above.

But what was it like at the venue and in Las Vegas itself? An Uber driver told me December was busier than he’s ever seen, but since the start of the year Omicron’s concerns have seen normal visitor levels drop in the city.

If that’s the case, 40,000 people still attend CES 2022, along with 2,300 exhibitors from January 5-7, and all the activities associated before, during and after the event that this influx of people brings has been a good boost to the whole town, which the fair hasn’t seen yet. CES is actually in 2021, down from 171,000 visitors and 4,400 exhibitors in January 2020.

Over the course of this week, we’ll be posting dozens of videos of interviews with people, companies, and technologies that caught my eye, and that I hope you’ll also like – there were actually some great technologies on display!

CES isn’t just held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, but across many venues, with a range of special exhibition centers, pavilions, and more, like Pepcom side events and ShowStoppers, all coming together to make CES an amazing technology experience.

So while there were clear gaps in various sections of places where companies opted to pull out at the last minute, and fewer media on the ground, there is no such thing as a physical event – even with the Omicron threat.

Masks were mandatory in all indoor spaces, and while I’ve rarely seen people without masks in Las Vegas, I’ve seen quite a few people with their noses separated from their masks, making masks somewhat useless. Hand sanitizer is also very widely available, although I always carried my sanitizer as a backup.

CTA is the Consumer Technology Association, which puts together CES each year, also offered Abbott-branded COVID Rapid Antigen tests, with two tests in the package, and offered all attendees a second package on Friday, the last day of the event.

Presumably to relieve the pressure the CTA was under to cancel CES completely for another year, the organizers decided to end CES a day early, on Friday, January 7 instead of Saturday, January 8.

Of course, plenty of companies would have booked hotel rooms and flights based on the original schedule, with the decision being made a few days before the show started, and with so many attendees still in Las Vegas anyway, I wasn’t a fan of closing the event early.

CES is still huge, and while I’m counting on that fourth day to capture more great tech from the event, and wish the decision hadn’t been made too soon, I can nonetheless understand the CTA’s reluctantly deciding to do so, and I pray the ravages of the coronavirus in the world approach its end, so no similar action is required in 2023.

I’ll leave you with two videos – the first is the full CES 2022 for BMW, which has more details than the few seconds of a color change you’ve probably only seen on TV news, and the second is CES 2022 “Trends in Technology”, which was held on the first of two media days on 3 January.

There is a lot of post-CES content to come every day as I continue to edit and publish all the content I’ve captured across a wide variety of companies – which even included interviewing digital video twins, as such, William Shatner – who was really the answer to a wide range of Questions CES Attendees Asked – With this video just one of any more questions to come.
