OU Alumna, Influencer and Content Creator, Kate Lazarski – Auckland Post

For some people, social media is just a form of entertainment. For others, it’s a way to explore their interests. But for Kate Lazarski, social media is a way to share her passion for showcasing some of her favorite things – travel, fashion, and dining.

With over 25,000 followers on Instagram, Lazarski has not only made a name for herself as a local celebrity on social media, but has transformed her experience as an influencer into a thriving career in communication.

Lazarski graduated from OU in 2015 with a degree in Public Relations, Advertising, and Applied Communication with hopes of pursuing a career in fashion marketing. After leaving Michigan to train in New York City, Lazarsky realized she preferred a career geared toward hospitality and public relations.

When she returned to Michigan from New York City, Lazarski started a job in Detroit exposing her to emerging businesses, restaurants, and shops. This show allowed her to post about her favorite local spots on Instagram, which led to her status as an influencer in Detroit.

Reflecting on her time at the OU, Lazarsky was grateful for the opportunities she had not only from the university but from her peers. She worked for the Greek Council OU and was also a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority.

“Really, I wouldn’t have had my first job without the internships I got from Auckland, and I’m so grateful,” Lazarski said. “We had to do two singles at the time so I did one with the Red Wings and one with Billhighway which is pretty random but it was the way my organization paid my dues — through Billhighway. So one of the girls got me this internship.”

“My boss who hired me outside of college was best friends with the head of the internship and he really praised me. He got a full-time job outside of college because of the internships and the relationships I built – which were huge.”

Lazarsky is also one of the creators of 48hrstravel – a guide for locals and tourists to completely immerse themselves in a city with recommendations for shopping, dining, lodging, etc. With the help of two of her friends, Marina and Nancy, the trio traveled to several cities in the United States and Canada to experience what each city had to offer.

The site served as a creative outlet for Lazarsky to share one of her favorite hobbies along with her professional experience in the telecom and hospitality industries.

“I used to travel a lot to work at Bedrock [real estate services] And I realized I was obsessed with travel and my job was to find the coolest things in every city.” “Ultimately my goal will be to bring him back to Detroit.”

“I knew I loved creating trails and finding the coolest thing and telling people about it. My girlfriends and I started 48 hours – which we haven’t really done since COVID-19 unfortunately – but hopefully we’ll get it back together again.”

Although Instagram serves as a way for her to share her love of travel, food, and fashion, Lazarsky said she wouldn’t count on her role as a full-time influencer. I have enjoyed the experience so far and hope to continue with it for as long as possible.

“Creating the content – I feel like I have no purpose. It kind of worked as I’ve never done that and just did something organic. I think [my goal is] Just going with it and riding it for as long as it lasts because I honestly don’t know how long it will last, but it’s been pretty cool so far.”

She aims to stay in the hospitality business, but has ideas about developing her own travel website. Lazarsky is currently the Director of Social Media Marketing and Brand Communications at Hirlum Hospitality Group and continues to work with brands and companies for consulting and promotional work.
