Free bootcamp LaunchCode is bringing two new web development courses to Philly this year

In early 2021, a nonprofit based in St. Louis LaunchCode It has expanded to Philadelphia, providing another free option for those looking for tech boot camps in the area.

I joined flexi coders And tech elevator – and later General Assembly And Codebox – As new training camps to Philly with similar goals to support diversity in the technology sector. Seeing high demand for the first course in 2021, LaunchCode is rolling out two new training camp options in Philadelphia in 2022.

“After conducting our first part-time course and continuing to make connections with local businesses, we believe the demand for entry-level tech talent in Philadelphia will only grow.” Leah FreemanThe Director of Public Relations at LaunchCode Technical. “We also know that the demand for free tracks accessible in these jobs is huge – we’ve received over 800 applications for our first course.”

New courses include a 15-week full-time option and a part-time option. LaunchCode aims to serve about 40 students in its cohort full-time and about 180 part-time students.

The full-time course focuses on web development and will be guided by the skills identified by the organization’s recruitment partners as being most in demand. This includes JavaScript — including testing and Angular, a popular JavaScript framework — and work-ready skills for building full-stack web applications using C#, with .NET MVC, Freeman said. The course will also introduce work readiness skills such as CV reviews and mock interviews.

The full-time group will run Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from February 28 to June 10. LaunchCode is looking to fill a portion of this category specifically with US veterans and military personnel being relocated, as some staff partners need tech talent with security clearances.

The part-time course, which will start in April, will meet two evenings per week and will teach full skills which are also taken into consideration by the staff partners of the institution. Graduates of both programs will be eligible for LaunchCodeThe apprenticeship program, through which LaunchCode It helps students find apprenticeships and paid employment opportunities in the area. Full-time group applications are open until February 6, and part-time applications will open on January 21.

Progressing

Based in New Jersey nickel johnson He studied software development using LaunchCode after graduating from college with a web development degree over a decade ago. She graduated with the June 2021 group and is looking for technical roles.

“My background is in healthcare for nearly 10 years and in retail for two years, but I knew I needed to pivot,” she said. “Although I have been able to develop my leadership skills and knowledge of healthcare over time, I have always seen my long-term career path in technology, but I have had a hard time educating myself and knowing where to start.”

A friend suggested LaunchCode, and Johnson saw it as an opportunity to get back on the technological path she had originally wanted to pursue. She said the boot camp was a rewarding experience for her, and now she is interviewing for a software developer job with tech leaders at different companies “she never thought she would be considered for inclusion”.

“We’ve grown a lot not only as a person but also as a technical expert,” Johnson said.
