HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team returns to Southland Conference play this weekend, hosting first-place Houston Baptist in a three-game series at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field to wrap up its regular-season home slate.

Southeastern (19-25, 9-9 SLC) and the Huskies (18-28, 11-7 SLC) will square off at 6 pm Friday, 2 pm Saturday and 1 pm Sunday. The Lions sit two games back of HBU, McNeese and Nicholls in the Southland standings with six conference games remaining.

Sunday is Senior Day and a designated Cane’s Challenge contest. Prior to the game, nine senior players will be recognized for their contributions to the SLU baseball program and free baseball cards will be available at the marketing and promotions table.

When the Lions score four or more runs Sunday, fans can take their ticket or student coupon to any participating Raising Cane’s location for a buy-one, get-one-free offer on any combo.

Fans in the Hammond area can listen to game broadcasts on the flagship station of the Southeastern Sports Radio Network – KSLU 90.9 FM – in addition to online at www.LionSports.net/ListenLive and via the Lions Gameday Experience, Mixlr and MyTuner Radio apps. The MyTuner app is compatible with the Apple CarPlay software available in most late model automobiles. Fans should search for SLU Athletics (Mixlr) or Southeastern Sports Radio Network (MyTuner).

All three games will also air on ESPN+.

Freshman left-hander Adam Guth (2-1, 4.99) draws the Lions’ starting assignment in the series opener opposite HBU senior left-hander Austin Spinney (3-3, 6.06).

SLU has not announced a starting pitcher for either of the series’ final two games. The Huskies plan to start senior right-hander Jared Burch (1-3, 4.32) in Saturday’s game and sophomore right-hander Matthew Charles (3-0, 6.62) in the series finale.

The Lions split a pair of games last week, dropping a 9-4 decision at home to No. 3-ranked Southern Miss on April 26 before winning the first two games of a three-game Southland series at Northwestern State.

Preston Faulkner (.295), Shea Thomas (.275), Tristan Welch (.254) Tyler Finke (.252) pace Southeastern at the plate. Faulkner leads the squad with 23 extra-base hits, including a Southland-leading 12 home runs to go along with 42 RBIs. The RBI total ranks fourth in the conference. Tyler Finke is tops on the team with 18 stolen bases, also ranking fourth in the Southland. Rhett Rosevear (26) leads the nation in HBPs and the Lions (89) rank fourth as a team.

Faulkner enters the weekend series third (32) on Southeastern’s career home run chart, one back of second-place Jeremy Gross (1997-98). He is also fourth (40) in career HBPs, one back of Rosevear who sits in third place (41). Faulkner is also tied for fourth (148) in career RBIs with Justin Boudreaux (2009-11) and Josh Cryer (2008-11). Finke (46) is 10th in career stolen bases.

Coached by former Houston Astro Lance Berkman, HBU swept a conference series at home this past weekend against UIW before dropping a non-conference contest Tuesday, 13-3, at No. 18-ranked Texas.

Brennan Bales (.313), Kevin Ortiz (.305), Austin Roccaforte (.290) and Parker Edwards (.287) are the Huskies’ leading hitters. Edwards’ six home runs and 25 RBIs are tops on the ballclub. Roccaforte leads the team with 10 stolen bases.
