US Para Women’s National Team Continues Impressive Run With Second Win At Inaugural 2022 IFCPF World Cup

SALOU, Spain (May 13, 2022) – The US Para Women’s National Team earned their second dominant victory in two matches at the inaugural IFCPF World Cup with a 14-0 triumph over an outmatched, but spirited Netherlands team.

Leading the way for the US was former University of South Florida collegiate standout Kat Renick, who tallied five goals and six assists in going the distance after sitting out the team’s first match. Renick (Safety Harbor, Fla.) score the game’s first three goals and added two assists in leading the team to a 7-0 halftime lead.

As she did in the first match, Catarina Guimarães, an 18-year-old forward from Cranford, NJ, had a hat trick, as well, adding three goals to her tournament-leading tally of nine goals.

Jesslyn Kuhnel (Panama City, Fla.) and Rebecca Ostrander (Carson City, Nev.) each added two goals to their totals, after each recording hat tricks in the team’s first match against Spain. Defender Michelle Cross (San Diego) scored a pair of goals, one in each half and went the distance against the Netherlands, marshalling the team’s defensive effort.

With four games in four days this week, head coach Tricia Taliaferro was able to rest three players in Joey Martin (Smyrna, Ga.), Cassidy Leake (Murrieta, Calif.) and Annie Wickett (Frederick, Md.), while Leah Glaser (Montclair, NJ) again came on as a second-half sub to help close out the match.

Goalkeeper Emily Lauritsen (Omaha) faced eight shots from the Netherlands and was called on to make three saves, her first of the tournament, in compiling her second straight shutout.

The US now maintains their hold on first place in the five-team inaugural competition, with matches ahead against Japan (Saturday, May 14 at 12:45 pm local / 6:45 am ET) and Australia (Sunday, May 15).
