Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is going to be a bride!
The US rep and her longtime partner Riley Roberts took their relationship to the next level last month, but only recently shared the big news.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Is Engaged!
Ocasio-Cortez, popularly known as AOC, shared the wonderful news in an exclusive interview with Business Insider, saying she and Roberts got engaged in April.
“We got engaged last month in my family’s hometown in Puerto Rico,” she shared. “No future details yet, we’re taking some space to save this time before diving into planning.”
In response to a tweet shared by Business Insider confirming the news, the famous Democratic politician, wrote, “It’s true! Thank you all for the well wishes 😊.”
The tweet has since received over 99,000 likes and numerous replies from fans who congratulated her on the milestone.
Not much is known about AOC and Roberts’ relationship as they are super low-key. However, reports say the lovers first crossed paths when they were students at Boston University.
Roberts and the New York native met in 2011 at a Friday-afternoon student town hall meeting at Boston University’s Coffee and Conversation event while the now-politician was having a discussion.
Close friends of the couple had no idea they were dating until after graduation. The now-engaged couple allegedly broke after graduating with Roberts relocating to Arizona. However, once he returned to New York, they rekindled their love.
The Lovebirds Have Been Dating Since University Days
Roberts, a marketing consultant, has played a strong role in supporting the AOC’s political career behind the scenes.
Filmmaker Rachel Lears, who created the 2018 documentary “Knock Down the House,” where Roberts was featured gave an insight into their loving relationship.
Lears revealed that Roberts played a key role in his fiancee’s campaign, “Everything from the emotional to the strategic to the practical, he has been a really important partner to her.”
Nothing has been shared about the wedding date or venue as Aoc and Roberts are choosing to enjoy the period together.
The news of the Congress rep’s engagement came hours after she gave a health update on her Instagram Story update.
She wrote, “I had a health issue sideline me for the last week or two (don’t worry it wasn’t COVID and I’m fine now) but it was right when a series of major event happened.”
AOC continued, “I’m back at it today but was MIA for a bit to recover.”
A Twitter Squabble With Elon Musk
Last month, AOC, who has a strong social media following, made headlines after an awkward interaction with billionaire Elon Musk.
As The Blast reported, AOC, who has a history of bashing billionaires, shared a tweet that made waves when Musk’s controversial takeover of Twitter was making headlines.

The New York 14th District representative tweeted, “Tired of having to collectively stress about what explosion of hate crimes is happening bc some billionaire with an ego problem unilaterally controls a massive communication platform and skews it because Tucker Carlson or Peter Thiel took him to dinner and made him feel special.”
Musk, who had been getting in a lot of online feuds about his $44 billion offer to purchase Twitter, thought AOC was referring to him.
Responding to her tweet, he wrote, “Stop hitting on me, I’m really shy ☺️,” but AOC immediately cleared the air, replying, “I was talking about Zuckerberg but ok.”
The politician’s savage response caused an uproar and was immediately deleted, alongside the original parent tweet.
It’s unsure why she deleted the post, but fans speculated she was actually referring to Musk.
